The Population Reference Bureau (sounds like 1984) says 117 billion people have lived, and our current population of 8 billion is 7% of the total. Scary demographers come up with such numbers. They study data to determine the causes and consequences of changes in human populations, and they develop registration systems and surveys to collect data and gather and analyze statistics concerning births, deaths, and migration. Most demographers are math cozy.
