I operate in a mixed world. Traditional people do that. John Wilbye's 17th century world was not much different from today, but neither he nor I is supposed to have a better life than Christ.

Wilbye lived at Hengrave Hall, a recusant household. His patron was Lady Elizabeth Kitson, who established two charities still operating today. Once, I was falsely accused. O the hour closer to God.

Colonel Jules Respond, Swiss Guard Commander of the Corps, designed the uniform, introduced on November 22, 1914. Raphael’s involvement? “Shortly after 1506, however, Raphael represented a group of four Swiss Guards in his painting Mass at Bolsena in the Room of Heliodorus in Julius II’s apartments in the Vatican. Here the guards are shown wearing loose and colorful trousers ending at the knee and a cassock or tunic and doublet that extended to the hip.” I went to the source to find the history of the uniform and quoted verbatim above: https://www.patronsvaticanmuseums.org/en/restoration/projects/swiss-guard-uniform Sabaton - noun, armor/foot defense of mail or of a number of lames with solid toe and heel pieces. Anaphora - the lyrics are an example of anaphora, which is the repetition of words, often rhyming. Lines repeat, “For the …” This is a rhetorical device I have been teaching my students and is so effective in speeches, poems, and songs. Sabaton did anaphora in spades, armed spades. Dignitatis Humanae “[T]he human person has a right to religious freedom,” which is described as “immunity from coercion in civil society.” This principle of religious freedom “leaves untouched traditional Catholic doctrine on the moral duty of men and societies toward the true religion.” In addition, this right “is to be recognized in the constitutional law whereby society is governed and thus it is to become a civil right.” Pius IX (1846-1878) definition Syllabus of Errors Pope Pius IX had written a document called the Syllabus of Errors. The Syllabus was made up of phrases and paraphrases from earlier papal documents, along with index references to them, and presented as a list of “condemned propositions”. It does not explain why each particular proposition is wrong, but it cites earlier documents to which the reader can refer for the Pope’s reasons for saying each proposition is false. “Among the statements included in the Syllabus are “[It is an error to say that] Every man is free to embrace and profess that religion which, guided by the light of reason, he shall consider true… .” “[It is an error to say that] In the present day it is no longer expedient that the Catholic religion should be held as the only religion of the State, to the exclusion of all other forms of worship… .” “[It is an error to say that] Hence it has been wisely decided by law, in some Catholic countries, that persons coming to reside therein shall enjoy the public exercise of their own peculiar worship.” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_religion#Christianity About the only way I could get quick information about 19th century Catholicism was here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_Catholic_Church#19th_century The reason I rely on Wikipedia quite frequently is that the main entry on the Catholic Church is accurate. This parable is alive and well after decades.
Once upon a time, the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, “Someone might steal from it at night.” So, they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job. Congress said, “How does the watchman do his job without instruction?” So, they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions and one person to do the time studies. Congress said, “How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?” So, they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports. Congress said, “How are these people going to get paid?” So, they created two positions: a timekeeper and a payroll officer and hired two people. Congress said, “Who will be accountable for all of these people?” So, they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and Legal Secretary. Congress said, “We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, and we must cut back.” So, they laid off the night watchman. Now slowly, let it sink in. Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the Department of Energy in the 1970s? Anybody? Anything? Anyone? No? Didn’t think so! Bottom line is, we have spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency, the reason for which very few people who read this can remember! It was very simple, and at the time everybody thought it very appropriate. The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. And now it’s 2022, 45 years later, and the annual budget for this department is over $35 billion. It has 14,000 employees and approximately 100,000 contract employees … and look at the job it has done. This is where you slap your forehead and say, “What were they thinking?” Thirty-four years ago, 30% of our oil consumption was imports. Today about 72% of our crude oil consumption is imports. Now, we have turned over the banking system, health care, and auto industry to the same government. What can possibly go wrong? Vivek Ramaswamy speaks. I know what he is talking about. I was banned from Facebook for three weeks for saying that the 2020 election was pitiful. That was all I said. I left social media outfits that do not respect free speech. I stayed with YouTube because, although the company has banned some people and posted federal government messaging, I can view videos that are (1) newsworthy, (2) entertaining, (3) historical, or (4) what I want to see, such as film trailers. YouTube is not my only source of information. “Decussate” [dih-KUH-seyt] From the Latin decussatus, meaning “divided crosswise,” the word also connects with the Latin decussis, which describes both the figure X and Roman numeral for 10. Words beginning with “dec-” can refer both to X and the number 10. In ancient, ancient Rome, December was originally the 10th month of the year. July and August were added to memorialize Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar. In botany, the term “decussate” describes pairs of leaves with stems at right angles to one another that cross paths as they grow! The Financial Times reported that two British publishing houses are removing content the CCP finds objectionable to allow their books, intended for western distribution, to be printed in China. Octopus Books and Quarto have stripped references to Taiwan and Hong Kong and altered character nationalities, changing Taiwanese to “East Asian.” Mentions of dissident artist Ai Weiwei were also deleted. Changes came after Chinese suppliers said they could not, by law, print the original versions. Other publishing houses, such as US printing company RR Donnelley & Sons, have faced similar pressures. The company authored a memo highlighting restrictions from its Chinese printers on mentions of human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Covid-19 origins. While some alternate printing locations are employed, price pressures prevent publishing houses from relocating their entire catalog. A spokesperson for Quarto stated the company had “a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of our shareholders.” Octopus Books said changes made “are not material and we always ask the permission of the author first to check they are comfortable to proceed.” Ownership of a website I pay for is what enables me to publish. In preparing for a reading lesson, I found a poem by Joe Brainard (1941-1994) that has anaphora (excerpted). As a rhetorical device, anaphora is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive parts and used so effectively in speeches and poetry. I remember that the only friends my parents had who owned a swimming pool also owned a funeral parlor. I remember laundromats at night all lit up with nobody in them. I remember a very clean Catholic book-gift shop with practically nothing in it to buy. I remember arranging boxes of candy so it would look like not so much was missing. I remember brown and white shoes with little decorative holes cut out of them. I remember certain group gatherings that are hard to get up and leave from. I remember alligators and quicksand in jungle movies. (Pretty scary.) I remember opening jars that nobody else could open. I remember making home-made ice cream. I remember that I liked store-bought ice cream better. I remember hospital supply store windows. I remember stories of what hot dogs are made of. I remember Davy Crockett hats. And Davy Crockett just about everything else. I remember not understanding why people on the other side of the world didn’t fall off. Here is a speech containing anaphora. EWTN reported today that Ukrainian Catholic priests are on the front line taking care of soldiers and civilians. The news program interviewed a married Ukrainian American priest who has seven children. He and a member of his parish entered Ukraine to rescue some children.
Note: Celibacy is a discipline, and prospects may not marry or be married. He married before ordination, which shows that the Eastern Church is slightly different. I did a little research and discovered that there are seven re-creations of the Porziuncola in the US. Portiuncola means “small portion of land” and was first mentioned in a document from 1045, now in the archives of the Assisi Cathedral.
San Francisco is Saint Francis in Spanish. Academy of Art students painted a Giotto-like mural on a wall outside the chapel. Angela Alioto put up more than $1 million and got big donations from arts patron Dede Wilsey, Nancy Cline of Cline Cellars, and Elisa Stephens, president of San Francisco’s Academy of Art University. Elisa’s son graduated Stuart Hall HS.
www.sacredsf.org/ Not so well known as her grandfather, Mary Basset was one of five children of William Roper and Margaret Roper, the daughter of Thomas More. Tutors gave both Margaret and her daughter, Mary, an excellent education. “Between 1544 and 1553, Mary Basset produced the first English translation of the Ecclesiastical History by Eusebius, now surviving in a single manuscript in the British Library, Harley MS 1860, along with her translation of its first book into Latin.” – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Basset The More family is a model for us all as we go through this awful persecution by state and church.
The dialog of the 2004 film, The Passion of the Christ, is in Hebrew, Latin, and reconstructed Aramaic, with subtitles. Christ speaks to His apostles in Aramaic, which is heard in the clip, and to Pontius Pilate in Latin. Memorizing the dialog must have been a challenge for the actors.
I have written previously about Father Joseph Devlin, SJ, and Father William Ryan, SJ. Joe served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1974, and Bill served in China in 1951. Joe escaped from Vietnam on the last day, and Bill survived solitary confinement and torture. Joe’s brother, Father Raymond Devlin, SJ, baptized my family, and Bill taught at my high school. I can’t be the only one who watches present media and is disgusted with critical race theory, gender theory, pharmaceutical wealth, and persecution, including not being allowed to say God - see Suicide post, government mandates, and church burnings. Insurrection? Rather, keep close to the heart what others suffered. Look at the post on 3/9/2022 regarding Wisconsin. The above video covers Rhode Island, Florida, and California. Three women sit on the panel. One is a lawyer and mom, one is a licensed mental health counselor and mom, and one is a mom. I am relieved to be unconnected to any school.
Yesterday, Father Evaristus said that chastity inside and outside marriage is most certainly what preserved the bodies of the incorrupt saints. The parents of Rita (1381-1457) arranged a marriage despite her repeated requests to be allowed to enter the convent. Her husband, Paolo Mancini, was a rich, quick-tempered, immoral man with many enemies. She endured insults, physical abuse, and infidelities. Bad guys killed him in the eighteenth year of their marriage. It was at that point that she entered the convent. She is an incorrupt. Then there is Bernadette (1844-1879), whose body the nuns washed during one of the exhumations, which caused black spots to appear on her face. A thin layer of wax was applied to her face to cover up the spots. As you can see from the close-up, all the facial features, bones, and eyelids remained intact. She is an incorrupt. What we see of Cecilia (early 200's), a married woman, is a marble sculpture, not her body. I looked her up on Wikipedia, which states that in 1599 Cardinal Sfondrati saw the remains and reported her incorrupt. Father Evaristus said we are expected to return our own bodies to God Almighty on His schedule! In the 1966 movie, A Man for All Seasons, Thomas More says to Cardinal Wolsey, “When statesmen forsake their own private conscience for the sake of their public duties, they lead their country by the short route to chaos.” Who is the new Wolsey? But Man He made to serve Him wittily, in the tangle of his mind.” - More Today, I learned more Latin: dīlēxī - first-person singular, perfect tense, active indicative of the verb, dīligō, to love - I have loved.
In the text below, the accent mark is on the penultimate syllable. The lowercase æ is a character formed from the letters a and e, originally a ligature representing the Latin diphthong ae. Combined with dilexi, it means, “which I have loved.” Latin is a little more succinct. It doesn’t need all the I’s and will’s and have’s. I might say it to people when the time is right. She made me laugh by her thrumming.
She teased the happiness out of me. My senses were stirred, and they were humming. She made me laugh by her thrumming. Excited wild heartbeats were now drumming. She unnumbed and infused a brother with glee. She made me laugh by her thrumming. She teased the happiness out of me. British Library
