Constance Lloyd Wilde (1858-1898), wife of Oscar Wilde, and son, Cyril (1885-1915), as photographed in 1889. A German sniper killed Cyril, a British Army captain posted to France. A second son, Vyvyan, was an author and translator (1886-1967). For security reasons, he was moved to a Jesuit school in Monaco, then converted to Catholicism, and subsequently attended Stonyhurst College in England.

I didn't know about this tragedy of Oscar Wilde's son, the published narrative is so centered on his gayness. By the way, my Dad had almost been killed by a Russian sniper, when he was a paratrooper in the Second World War. The Ivan missed him thrice or four times, my Dad thought at first that a bird had pooped in the snow, when he noticed at last, he immediately ducked and covered and so saved his life...
