Chicago "Faith and community"? It's a church, whose modernist architecture is set to become a hub for outreach ministries, operated by the Black Catholic Initiative and the Augustus Tolton Spirituality Institute, and that's your African American spirituality, like saying Irish American spirituality, or 221 others.
Father John Augustus Tolton was the first black Catholic priest in the United States, ordained in Rome in 1886. He was preceded by the Healy brothers, Catholic priests who passed as white. Born into slavery in Missouri, Tolton and his family escaped in 1863 and settled in Quincy, Il, acknowledged. You know where this is headed. It's not a surprise. The US bishops have zero interest in converting anyone because they themselves lost confidence and left the Catholic Church 56 years ago.
