latin mass church

An anecdote best exemplifies the difference between the Latin Mass Church and the modernist Church.

I wanted to go to confession Friday. The nearest Catholic church had a scheduled confession for after the 7pm Mass, which is backward. Confession should be before and/or during Mass.

I arrived at an emptied, locked, and darkened church. There was a light in the rectory. I rang the doorbell, and no one answered.

Today, the 45-minute drive to St. Stephen the First Martyr advanced me to confession before the 12pm Mass.

At St. Stephen, confession is scheduled three times a day, overriding any natural or man-made catastrophes, and begins on time, to the minute.

I find it interesting to consider that when going to receive communion, the minimum requirement is for a good confession and have proper attitude. However, what we should strive for (I say this boldly because I don't think anyone will disagree) is to be as pure, clean and innocent as possible so that we are the best place for our Lord to reside, as best as we can make it. Now, if you go to confession on Saturday and receive on Sunday, you have many hours to lose your purity and innocence, whether it is an immodest person you see on t.v., or an angry argument with your loved one, and listening to gossip about your neighbor, or reading gossip about a famous person getting a divorce, or a gluttonous meal, or muttering a curse word, or how about an impure thought, there are myriad ways that you can make yourself soiled, a little or alot, before receiving on Sunday. And if you try to dissect which ways are a blemish and which are not (trying to determine if you willed the act or thought, was it a matter of habit, did you do it without thinking, there are so many ways to slice and dice a sin and the culpability for a sin, its enough to drive you crazy, or at least, overly scrupulous) So why don't we go to confession right before Mass, like they do at St. Stephens. Walk out of the confessional right into the start of the Mass and offer up ourselves to our Lord as the most clean and beautiful undefiled place for our Lord to enter.

Mr. Dunn, am i paranoid or did the post 60s church let everyone receive. Communion lines are long, confession lines are short. And we receive every time we go to Mass (very few people are left sitting). If we go daily, we receive daily. If we go weekly, we receive weekly. If we are a Chreaster we receive on Christmas and Easter, and if we are around to receive twice in a day, we do that too. Bob, we don't know the state of anyone's soul when they go up to receive, come on!! Don't be judgmental. But we do know the statistics of our Catholic church membership about what we believe as a percentage (how many believe in the Real Presence? not many) and what we do as a percentage (how many catholics are using contraception? lots). If we go to confession, its on Saturday, but Mass is the next day!!. Am I paranoid to think that someone set this system up so that many people receive without being prepared, without being pure and clean and beautiful inside???? Who did this? Is this system supposed to get the maximum number of people who aren't prepared to go to communion, who shouldn't be going? Sure, we want every Catholic to receive every day, I want that, you want that, St. Augustine wants that, St. Pius X wants that but at the expense of us not being ready??? To lose out on graces or to offend our God? That is the question. Which is it? I vote for losing out on graces if we are not sure before we offend God. What did God say to Saint Faustina? you recall? God said he wanted to jump away from such and such person when they presented themselves for communion. And that is in a convent! God bless. Sam
