I have a long-time friend who has transitioned. I keep my opinions to myself. When I fall in love with someone, as I did with my parents, the love is permanent. They had their faults, as do I, but their faults melted away. There are at least 12 people I’m in love with, all family, but the list of treasures has grown larger over time, from boyhood friends and co-workers, to teachers and college students, to friends at church and a priest or nun here and there, to a real X. I suppose I’m trying to say that I care a great deal for this individual, and faults have melted away.

When an adult likes me, I’m undone. I especially like leaders and strong-willed people, intelligent, faithful, and dutiful, like Christopher Columbus, though my strong will can cause a conflict until I give in. Sometimes loneliness is overwhelming, and other times love is. I am quite wound up a lot of the time. Not much peace, but there will be when I get to the other side, and everybody I loved and JC are there.

When I finished reading this short love letter, my nana came to mind. She would say, “You have an ‘I’ problem,” m
eaning that the reflection in the mirror is the source. Well, confession takes care of faults.
