“The priest I spoke with was a Redemptorist, just like those who ran the Purgatorian Society. He was also the only priest at the parish. He said that when he was a boy, the parish was vibrant. There were ten priests. It was possible for them to say eleven High Masses a day because they all needed to say a private Mass to fulfill their obligation. There was no concelebration in those days.

“Around the 1960s, he told me, people started leaving. Pretty soon, they had to tell people they couldn’t take any more enrollments because there weren’t enough priests to say the Masses.”

Quote from Fr. Michael Rodriguez, November 14, 2014

ical, used in forming an adjective from a noun, e.g., irenical - adjective meaning peaceful, conciliatory, promoting peace, especially over theological or ecclesiastical disputes
Fr. Michael E. Rodríguez was born in 1970, in the border city of El Paso, TX. He is the third in a family of six children and was raised in a devout Catholic home. Rodríguez was ordained a priest in 1996 and early in his priesthood he served as the Vocation Director for the Diocese of El Paso. He has served in numerous parishes, both urban and rural, throughout the diocese. In 2005, Fr.
