“The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre-Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral. A dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body. The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature. God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation.” Cardinal J Mindszenty (1892-1975).
Westminster Cathedral was completed in 1903. My mother and I attended Mass here, located in central London, in 1996. The cathedral has what looks like a balcony for Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare was a recusant. The Latin at the bottom of the screen is easy to understand.
Vas - vessel, i.e., a person of whom God avails Himself
Turris Davidica - Tower of David, Speculum - mirror
Ora pro nobis
- Pray for us

Last Monday it was the 10th anniversary that my dear mother passed away, so together with my brother Johannes we visited the grave (I had procured a bunch of white roses and Gerbera), and when we were driving home from a dinner at a fish restaurant at the Danube, I suddenly received a call from my wife, that her mother, my mother in law, had died. Very strange, all this... After coming home, I supported my wife in observing some rites (Of course I follow the Jesuit opinion that Confucian ancestors' cult is just a civil ritual, not the Franciscan and Dominican point of view, that it is idolatry - by the way, if the Jesuits had won the argument, there would have been the chance of a "Constantin Turn" in Manchu China). I was also glad, that I found in this very week the chance to take part in a Fatima celebration on Friday 13th afternoon, because one of my students canceled (Lady May went to Hungary for dental surgery, many do so because of far lower fees).

My condolences to you and your wife over the tremendous loss.

I did the same on the 13th. Fr. Curtis gave a sermon connecting the dates of the Fatima appearances to the date that Ruth of the Old Testament was crowned queen, which was on the 13th.

I agree with you about the Jesuits in China. I fear they have lost their way now. All I can do is pray for them.
