The Bad
There are cameras on the street, in almost every building, and on your computer and cell phone. You can be sure that “they” know who you are and where you are, right down to the GPS coordinates and Google Street View.
If you buy something, your habit is put into a zillion profiles, and ads will change to reflect those habits. Every transaction, every mail order, every department or grocery store purchase is recorded and shared with others who want your business. So, “they” will try to get you to buy something else, again and again and again.
My activity shows up in email ads and on sites I visit.
The Good
My neighbor couple each wears an Apple watch, which monitors health. She was awakened one night by beeping and vibrating. The watch told her she had atrial fibrillation (AFIB). She took herself to the emergency room. At rest, a normal heart rate is approximately 60 – 100 beats per minute. In a person with AFIB, the heart rate can skyrocket to 180 beats per minute or even higher. Her heart rate was 180. The watch had saved her life.
The Leaves-Me-Wondering
The same couple told me that the watch is listening. When they are discussing a subject, they get numerous notifications on the subject!
