The etymology of the city name is Spanish, which derives from the Latin sacramentum. This in turn derives from the Greek New Testament word mysterion.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains the meaning of the word Sacrament: “The Greek word mysterion was translated into Latin by two terms: mysterium and sacramentum. In later usage the term sacramentum emphasized the visible sign of the hidden reality of salvation which was indicated by the term mysterium.”
