• 1975 medium shot Saigon evacuees walking quickly aboard a US carrier ship
• Many of the evacuees were businessmen and women, or associated with the South Vietnam government or military and the American military, and under immediate threat of death or imprisonment.
• Father Joseph Devlin SJ from San Francisco was boarding a helicopter on the roof of the American Embassy. He was taken to Camp Pendleton in California where Marines cared for 10,000 refugees. He had a bounty on his head.
• ​Joe was not a chaplain; he was a missionary from the California Province, whose headquarters were next door to St. Ignatius High School.
• Father Raymond Devlin SJ, his younger brother, baptized my family in 1961, secretly, and recently I was interviewed by Patrick Devlin, who hopes to publish a history on Joe. I say "secretly" because the baptisms did not become fully known until 1971.
• Joe died on February 23, 1998–Ash Wednesday.
• Ray died on December 6, 2011–Immaculate Heart of Mary.

My wonderful stepfather, Joe, helped Ray bring us into the Church and was our godfather. He died on June 29, 1997–The Holy Apostles, Sts. Peter and Paul.
