Don’t you love a train? BNSF and Amtrak run through my little town on their way to Donner Summit (7,000 feet). The track zigzags up to the Summit. Toward the end of the video, you can see snow on a freight train. I hear the trains occasionally, but there is no stop in town, so the horn is not blown. Most freight train engineers (drivers) will blow the horn if they see you and you raise your arm and pull on an imaginary horn. Ignore the graffiti tags by lonely criminals seeking attention.
In 2021 my EMT friend in San Jose, CA, had to tend to a woman who tried to commit suicide by throwing herself in front of a train. The attempt failed. I owned two model electric trains as a 12-year-old, Lionel and HO, and wanted to be a train driver. Like most boys I had dreams. The only other sound that was so beautiful was the Golden Gate Bridge fog horn, which I could hear at night if the wind was blowing in my direction.
At 17 minutes is a drone flyover of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta where small water craft motor through. The locations are in the Central Valley “Fruit Basket”. California, awarded statehood in 1850, has the fifth-largest economy in the world.
