the triplet

In the right-hand melody, Chopin frequently groups eighth notes into clusters of three marked with a small "3" bracket. These are triplets, which force three notes to be played in the space normally occupied by two eighth notes, making this piece of music challenging. The structure is ABA. I practiced every day, including Sundays.

Today’s Gospel: Matt. 28, 18-20

Matthew was born Levi, son of Alphæus, Levi ben Alphæus. His new name originated from the Hebrew name Matityahu (מַתִּתְיָהוּ). The English version of the name is an anglicized transliteration of the Greek and Latin.

Matthew was either a new name given to him by Our Lord or simply his Greek business name used while working as a tax collector for the Roman Empire. He was an outsider.

  1. Wax Tablets and Styli: For quick note-taking, draft ledger entries, and temporary calculations, he used a wooden tablet filled with black wax, scratching into it with an iron or bone stylus.
  2. Papyrus and Reed Pens: For permanent official tax receipts (customs receipts) and financial ledgers, he used sheets of papyrus, ink made from soot and gum, and sharp reed pens (calami).
  3. Tax Booth (Telonion): Matthew operated out of a physical toll booth or customs house. It was located on the major international trade route connecting Egypt and Damascus, which ran straight through Capernaum.
It was at Capernaum, a busy fishing village and trade hub on the northern shore of the Sea Of Galilee, that Our Lord called him, marking the end of Matthew's Jewish life, permanently.

Chopin wrote by hand on physical music paper, namely manuscripts. He used a quill, a pen made from a goose or swan feather, dipped in brown ink.

For neither was life a pillow of down.
