EncroChat

In 2020, international police hacked the encrypted phone network EncroChat, used by organized crime gangs across the globe. For 74 days, they had access to every message and picture used to coordinate drug trafficking, money laundering, kidnap, and murder.

James Harding, 34, from Alton in Hampshire, and his "loyal right-hand man" Jayes Kharouti, 39, from Epsom in Surrey, ran a vast criminal empire and imported £30m worth of cocaine into the UK. They were sentenced after being found guilty following a trial at the Old Bailey.
