The Washington Examiner reported that Roger Alejandro Pinate Martinez, a Venezuelan national and the mind behind the Smartmatic voting system company, was recently indicted by a federal grand jury in Florida. The indictment alleges Martinez plotted to sway the 2016 Philippine elections by offering bribes totaling $1 million.​
