Talk, Priest, Best, and Sweet are stories from my youth, and Heel stems from my career as an officer. These recollections of events that affected my life record the impact of trauma and the accompanying theme: love overcomes loss and endures. The 1962 Missal has a prayer that resonates: “What shall I render unto the Lord for the things that He hath rendered unto me?” My stories, fictional or true, are a small rendering to Him for the gift of imagination and the people placed in my life, and I hope you like reading what I’ve written.
