A bald eagle was found dead of a single gunshot wound in Washington County, PA. A suspect admitted to killing the eagle, one of a pair of adults who had just birthed two eaglets. The North American bird has been the national bird of the USA since 1782. Numbers of bald eagles have been growing ever since being put on the endangered species list, but current dangers still exist, such as poaching.
