“Marc Antony’s speech in the third act of Julius Caesar drips with aporia.” The word aporia [ə-POR-ee-ə] means doubt. It comes from the Latin word aporia. That word comes from Ancient Greek ἀπορία and ἄπορος (aporos, “impassable”). The English word “portable” derives from the Latin root portare, meaning to carry. Altan (13) is memorizing port and other Latin and Greek roots … wordgenius sourced the word.

Many years ago, I attempted student teaching and expressed a belief in testing. The lead teacher told me privately that if I wanted a teaching job, I should keep my mouth shut. Opportune advice must have steered me in other directions. The educational establishment is generally indisposed to testing, and I could not submit to that … or poor leadership, or inferior content, or crass indoctrination. The University of California system dropped the SAT effective Fall 2022, and two private schools in San Francisco dropped the SSAT this year. I tutor both exams, and both are excellent. The whole system works like dominoes.
Watching good schoolteachers and experience developed my strong beliefs on what educational professionals should be. The Jesuits affected me the most. The content of the schoolwork was not always perfect, but their example made up for any deficiencies. There are many teachers in my family (7). The one who was in training (age 11) held impromptu school in the basement at home for me and my little sister. All the family teachers were emulatable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiojrMxy7FM
This young lady analyzes The Young Pope (television series) from a fashion point of view. In the first half this non-Catholic speaks about the crisis of faith in the modern world and the paradox of a traditional man surrounded by modernism [my term]. Many of us do not see ourselves in this crisis of faith, but we do find ourselves in the paradox, and she must know that. I get the sense from seeing and listening to her that she might find herself in the paradox, too. I disagree with her phrase, “extreme conservatism.” I would change the phrase to, “purist Catholicism.” One of my characters has synesthesia. Sometimes, when he hears a word or a name, he sees blue. One of the five senses is intertwined with another.
Now I will reveal my true colors. Malaga, Spain, April 3, 2018. Actual Crucifixion, Jerusalem, Roman Empire, April 3, 33. The Spanish Legion, founded Jan 28, 1920, advances, and the leader, whose ascetic face blazons, looks as if he just marched out of an El Greco painting. The crowd displays corporeal and spiritual class. The video speaks immeasurable truth. Not shown, however, are the kisses men, women, and children liberally give. It is a little early for Good Friday, which is five months away. First comes Christmas, but beauty, urgency, glory, eternity compel. Watch when the corpus, protector of the Legion, is lifted with ropes onto the float that weighs almost three tons and is carried by 242 men. The crucifix weighs 400 pounds, true to life. I am a word lover and a word hater. Here are the top six despicable words: 1) victim 2) race (unless it’s on foot) 3) manifesto 4) relative (unless it’s family) 5) cover-up and 6) gender. Who the hell is confused about my gender? Pillow fight? This neighbor looks ready to take me on. Uh … I might need a long barrel. Click the rifle pic.
I had promised more about Altan and robots. He is writing about a program for studious boys and girls in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Opportunities may come to take field trips to places like NASA Ames in Mountain View, CA. I joked with him that STEM students are nerds and that he is a nerd but also a great soccer player. He is a combination of intellect and athleticism. He has seen a go-kart and self-playing xylophone constructed by STEM students. By the time Altan is finished writing, he will be able to lucubrate on any subject!
Man says to priest, “Father, I have a problem. My daughter looks at Vague.”
Priest counsels man, “Temptations aren’t vague. Tell her to pray.” |
