Lone Ranger (mature)

1/31/2022

The Lone Ranger is captured by an enemy Indian War Party.

The Indian Chief proclaims, “So, YOU are the great Lone Ranger. You will be put to death in three days. I shall grant you three requests. What is your FIRST request?”

The Lone Ranger responds, “I
’d like to speak to my horse.”

The Chief nods, and Silver is brought before the Lone Ranger. He whispers in Silver’s ear, and the horse gallops away.

Later that evening, Silver returns with a beautiful blonde woman on his back. As the Indian Chief watches, the blonde enters the Lone Ranger’s tent and spends the night.

The next morning the Indian Chief admits he’s impressed. “You have a very fine and loyal horse. But I will still kill you in two days. What is your SECOND request?”

The Lone Ranger again asks to speak to his horse. Silver is brought to him, and he whispers in the horse’s ear.

As before, Silver takes off and disappears over the horizon.

Later that evening, to the Chief's surprise, Silver again returns, this time with a voluptuous brunette, more attractive than the blonde.

She enters the Lone Ranger’s tent and spends the night.

The following morning the Indian Chief is again impressed. “You are indeed a man of many talents, but I will still kill you tomorrow. What is your LAST request?”

The Lone Ranger responds, “I’
d like to speak to my horse … alone.”

The Chief is curious, but he agrees, and Silver is brought to the Lone Ranger’s
 tent.

Once they’re alone, the Lone Ranger grabs Silver by both ears, looks him square in the eye, and says, “For … the … last … time … bring a
POSSE!”

Thomas Paine (1737-1809) said, “To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by scripture.” Thomas, please step forward and meet some teachers in America today and then wander over to some school boards and sit in on their meetings.

chopin math

The Nocturne requires plenty of practice because there are key changes and accidental changes, reversals, I call them, natural to flat or sharp, and back, plus double flats and polyrhythms. Classical music is like math, only in the first case, the composer writes out the directions for you. Above the notes are fingering numbers, 1 for the thumb, 2 for the forefinger, etcetera. C indicates four beats per measure. Ped is for pedal, and something resembling greater than and less than symbols tell the pianist to increase or decrease the sound. The piece is difficult, but not purposely. Chopin just wanted to achieve a certain effect.

From my EMT friend: “Yesterday at work, I responded to a COVID individual who was claiming fatigue. Silly me, before I stepped into the house, I asked, ‘Anyone else COVID+ in the house?’ I was in full PPE. That means goggles, surgical mask under the N95 mask, gown, and gloves. One of the family members took immediate offense and stated that he did not like my question and that, if I was so worried, I should not be working! How entitled is this moron? He even said that he was going to complain to his lawyer. Saying nothing, I took glee at such bravado.”

Pius IX

1/30/2022

Anthony Stine reads a speech given by Pius IX (1792-1878). One would think that the speech is old and outdated, but it is shockingly not and is worth a listen. Anthony gives some context to the speech and some of his own commentary. Anthony does a lot of research on matters affecting the Catholic Church today, and I subscribe to his YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XURl2gBrHxQ This speech is very learned, and long, complex sentences exemplify the time. Pius is speaking directly to us as Catholics and/or Americans.

Francis is one of the worst popes ever. Outside of governments, the Catholic Church is the largest provider of health care, education, and charity. Francis has done absolutely nothing in these areas. He could have unified efforts in these three areas and made them even stronger. Nope. Instead, he attacks faithful Catholics. Every time he says something derogatory, I know it is aimed at me.

We are totally loyal to the Church. We pray for him every Sunday. If I say the Morning Offering, I pray for him then, too, but otherwise I offer nothing for this man, and my prayer is for his enlightenment only. I do that when there is nothing else to do.

pillows vobismetipsis

My priest reminded me today that He who saved me was frequently exhausted when He walked the Earth and had no place to lay down His head. When the woman who was hemorrhaging touched His garment and He couldn’t see her in the crowd, Christ knew what happened because virtue flowed out of Him into her at that moment and left Him exhausted. There is no goodness without some sacrifice.

I got mixed up today on which Mass was being said and found I was one week ahead of myself, but in the process, I found another beautiful sounding Latin word, vobismetipsis, with accent on the penultimate syllable. It means, “for yourselves.” The word is found in Paul’s Epistle to the Colossians, 3, 12-17. In that passage, Paul gives a blueprint for right living, and the passage says, “… et donantes vobismetipsis si quis adversus aliquem habet querelam: ….”, translated as, “… and forgiving one another, if you have a complaint against another, ….”

We get the word “quarrel” from querelam.

latin mass training

1/28/2022

This is an actual Mass that has been edited to provide training for altar boys, so it does not fulfill the obligation to attend Mass. Our Gregory (8) can serve the priest by himself. Any man or boy who serves the priest at the altar must go through the training. As the video is for training purposes only, there is none of the usual noise or chaos.

Everyone has a Missal and silently prays the Mass with the priest. The Missal is in Latin and English, and I read everything in English before Mass so I can read it in Latin during Mass. The altar boys say the responses.

IHS, which you see when the vestments are laid out, is a monogram or symbol for the name Jesus. The letters are a contraction of the Greek word for Jesus, which in Greek is spelled IHΣΟΥΣ.

A genuflection is made every time one passes the tabernacle out of respect for Christ within.

There is a good linguistic reason for saying Holy Ghost. The name comes from the German, Heilige Geist, which means Holy Ghost.

My warm-up explanation has not been reviewed by anyone else.

When I was about nine, I found some white powder in a can in the basement and silently mixed the powder with water. Then I painted every wooden bannister in the backyard, and there were many because the yard went down the hill (San Francisco). The next day, I came out to look at my handy work. All the powder had blown off. I still don’t know what the powder was.

gender signs

1/27/2022

For the first eight years at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, I saw no politics, just wonderful art students whom I loved very much. Then, it started. The first instance was a bathroom in a residence hall. Everyone used the bathroom. It had one sink, one toilet, and one shower. (Once, I had to chase a homeless woman out of the bathroom. She was taking a shower.) Suddenly, a sign appeared on the bathroom door. It said, “All Genders.” What? No one was excluded. There was no need for a sign.

The second instance was an email I had received from a residence director. I was asked to speak to a security guard I supervised. The email ended with the director’s name followed by three pronouns: he, him, and his. At first, I was puzzled over what the purpose of adding the pronouns was. I was a little dense, but it came to me. He was telling me which pronouns I could use when referring to him. I still love the school and the students very much. Nothing can change that.

There might be one or two persons even older, but this film and person are easily verifiable. Summary of Aeterni Patris from wikipedia.com: “As pope, he used all his authority for a revival of Thomism, the theology of Thomas Aquinas. On 4 August 1879, Leo XIII promulgated the encyclical Aeterni Patris ("Eternal Father"), which, more than any other single document, provided a charter for the revival of Thomism, the medieval theological system based on the thought of Aquinas – as the official philosophical and theological system of the Catholic Church. It was to be normative not only in the training of priests at church seminaries but also in the education of the laity at universities.” With exceptions, Catholic universities and highs schools ignore Leo.

Frankly, I like this video because of the music. The girls are 13-14. I would like being their academic tutor. My favorite age group is roughly 12-15 because they do what I tell them to do, and Russians would do what I tell them to do. They continue class as the school bell rings.

calendar

January
January is named after the Roman god, Janus, the god with two faces, to Cicero the god of beginnings and transitions (looks back to the old and forward to the new?).

Sunday
Sunday comes from the Latin, dies solis, day of the Sun. Helios is the Sun god, and the Roman equivalent of Helios is Sol. Sol is the origin of Sunday, or Sol-day.

Sol
Sol is a measurement of time in outer space. It is the passing of the Sun twice at the same meridian on Mars and is a little longer than one Earth day.

Calendar

Pope Gregory XIII changed the calendar in 1582 by losing 10 days to compensate for a miscalculation during Julius Caesar’s reign. This fixed the calendar.

Here is an example of full-time work for a pianist.

One of my reading students does not like the word test or exam, so I call everything a challenge. I like the wordless courtesy of the students in this 2013 challenge. One of my other students looks very Russian, but he does not do ballet. In fact, he is Tatar.

If Eve could jeopardize the whole human race for an apple, what would she do for a Klondike bar? A little about that delicious orb. The forbidden fruit has been represented as an apple. Why? Wordplay. The Latin word for apple, malum, can mean both apple and evil.

racism at school

A relative, whose name I cannot say, taught first grade at a public school in San Francisco for 30 years. In her 29th year, she took a leave of absence for surgery to remove a cancerous kidney. She recuperated and returned to work. In the teacher lunchroom, she overheard one teacher say to another, “Miss xxxx is the only white teacher left in the school. We have to figure a way to get her out.” She was the kind of first grade teacher you would want for your children: sweet, caring, and nonaggressive. She could not cope, found another school, and completed her 30 years in education.

Jefferson Elementary School District in California is set to be the first district in the U.S. to include ethnic studies classes in all elementary and middle schools. The second unit of the curriculum claims that America is a white supremacist country that is institutionally racist. It accuses white people of using the system of white supremacy to maintain their “wealth, power, and privilege.” The district is in Daly City, CA, next to San Francisco, and serves roughly 6,000 students in ten elementary schools and four middle schools. Click on the link to see the lesson plans. They reify what critical race theory (CRT) is all about. I hope I never encounter students who have been rendered unrecognizable by CRT and, therefore, incapable of being tutored by me.

One of my cousins, who graduated from St. Ignatius High School in San Francisco, attended Stanford University on a football scholarship, and was a lifelong Catholic, taught history at Jefferson High School. No doubt the large-sized man would not have submitted to bullying or a lying history curriculum.

The CRT nightcrawlers receive the protection we all get from the American military and law enforcement. I recommend we gather the nightcrawlers together, place them onto ships, and send the ships to the doldrums. Without sunscreen, the nightcrawlers would get sunburned and kill each other. Done.

wolves and roaches

“When the shepherd becomes a wolf, the first duty of the flock is to defend itself. The true children of the Holy Church, at such times, are those who walk by the light of their baptism, not the cowardly souls who, under the specious pretext of submission to the powers that be, delay their opposition to the enemy in the hope of receiving instructions which are neither necessary nor desirable.” Dom Prosper Guéranger (1805-1875), Solesmes Abbot who reestablished the French Benedictines after the Revolution wiped them out.

The latest charge, which was made on 12-18-21, is that Catholics like me who attend the Mass of the Ages are individualists and relativists. So says Abp Roche. I had to check the spelling because his name sounds like roach. I am keeping track of the attack inside and outside the Church. Modernists, secularists, and leftists are deaf and dumb, unaware that they are growing the resistance every day. Roche is an ignoramus.

Proof

Relativism denies absolute truth, the possibility of sin and God, and the capacity of the human mind and reason to arrive at truth.

Wikipedia does a good job defining relativism:

“Truth, according to Catholic theologians and philosophers (following Aristotle) consists of adequatio rei et intellectus, the correspondence of the mind and reality. Another way of putting it states that the mind has the same form as reality. This means [that] when the form of the computer in front of someone (the type, color, shape, capacity, etc.) is also the form that is in the mind, then what is known is true because the mind corresponds to objective reality. [edited slightly for grammatical errors]

“The denial of an absolute reference, of an axis mundi, denies God, who equates to Absolute Truth, according to these Christian theologians. They link relativism to secularism, an obstruction of religion in human life.”

For your penance, Roche, you will be flown to San Francisco and ordered to walk down Market Street by yourself at 3am, and you will be watched to ensure that you do not try to find sanctuary in a rectory.
