FROM RICK on Face Book 6-21-20
So, this happened in Montana. I'm on my way to go to my interview this morning when I get pulled over. By a Montana officer. I am native American and my friend that was with me is black. Just saying. Both brake lights decided to go out this time. As he walked to the car and I was pulling out my stuff, he quickly said, "Don't worry about pulling anything out. I just want you to know that your brake lights are out." So, I'm immediately upset, because I just got them replaced like last month. So I explained to him how Firestone wants to charge me $600 just to run a test on the wiring of the car. He looked at me like (sad face emoji) and told me to pop the trunk. He checked the lights in the trunk and tapped them, but they didn't come on. So he told me to pop the hood to check the relay box then asked me to get out to check the other one. Then worked on the wiring under the dash. He could've easily given me a ticket, but Officer Jenkins stepped out of officer role, and into mechanic role, and human role...to make sure I was straight. By the way HE FIXED THEM. Not everyone is racist, or a bad cop.

Susan Rosenberg has served as vice chair of the board of directors for Thousand Currents, an organization that provides fundraising and fiscal sponsorship for the Black Lives Matter Global Movement.
In the 1970s and 1980s, she was an active member of revolutionary left-wing movements whose illegal activities included bombing U.S. government buildings and committing armed robberies. In 2011, she wrote her memoir and recounted what she said during an unsuccessful 1997 parole application: “I outlined my criminal acts and what I felt about them then and now. I talked about the political ethos of the 1960s and how it had led me and my associates into thinking our activities were acceptable. I detailed how sorry I felt now, how I accepted responsibility for my past actions, and how I would never commit any crimes again. “I tried to put my life within the context of the historical period when many Americans thought they could change the world and end war and racism and poverty. I tried to distinguish between my core values and my embrace of the use of political violence. I stated that I now rejected the use of violence. I meant all that I said.” Believe her? "It's not the police who need to be retrained, it's the public. We have grown into a mouthy, mobile phone wielding, vulgar, uncivil society with no personal responsibility and the attitude of 'it's the other person's fault', 'you owe me'. A society where children grow up with no boundaries or knowledge or concern for civil society and personal responsibility.
When an officer says "Put your hands up," then put your hands up! Don't reach for something in your pocket, your lap, your seat. There's plenty of reason for a police officer to feel threatened, there have been multiple assaults and ambushes on police officers lately. Comply with requests from the officer, have your day in court. Don't mouth off, or fight, or refuse to comply...that escalates the situation...." ~ David Clarke (6-30-20), Milwaukee WI County Sheriff 2002-2017 From the desk of Ryan Saavedra, DailyWire.com, 7-17-20
Leaders in the black community in New York City have started to call on the NYPD to deal with the surge in violent crime around the city by bringing back the department’s plainclothes anti-crime unit which was recently dismantled as anti-police sentiment soared in the wake of the death of George Floyd. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, a former cop, became the second prominent member of the African American community to call for the reinstitution of the Anti-Crime Unit, CBS New York reported Monday. “This, as shootings for the week went up 277%, 49 compared to 13 in 2019. The number of victims is up 253%, 60 compared to 17 in 2019.” A police recruit was asking during an exam, "What would you do if you had to arrest your mother?" The recruit answered, "Call for backup."
What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechanical engineers build weapons. Civil engineers build targets.
With all this unrest and violence, it is a good time to step back and reflect on today's Gospel Matthew 3:23-30 (from Breaking Bread with Daily Mass Propers 2020)
Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying: “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weed appeared as well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, ‘Master, did we not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?’ He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, ‘First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning’ but gather the wheat into my barn.’” We must let the weeds grow with us, but at harvest, they will be burned. ******DEPUTY BALLARD CAUGHT IN THE ACT****** Last night, Deputy Ballard crossed paths with a struggling family who missed their bus ride. The family was going to spend the night on the streets in hopes to catch a morning bus. Deputy Ballard dug into his own pockets and rented a room for the family, so they didn’t have to rough the streets. Thank you for your compassion and generosity Deputy Ballard! The world needs more of this! Quote from Andrew C. McCarthy, Senior Fellow, National Review Institute
[Chesa Boudin is District Attorney for San Francisco] Chesa’s candidacy was backed by the Left’s financial network, BLM, and such luminaries as Communist icon Angela Davis… At the victory party the night of Boudin’s election, ecstatic supporters chanted “F*** POA! (i.e., the Police Officers Association). He had run on a platform of ending what he sees as undue law-enforcement focus on people of color, thwarting federal action against undocumented immigrants, and prioritizing investigations not by the police. He’s making good on these promises. For example, he has stopped bringing charges that include a sentencing enhancement California’s legislature enacted to curb gang violence, fretting that it is disproportionately applied to people of color. Just a few weeks ago, moreover, he announced a new initiative: https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2020/06/16/da-chesa-boudin-not-charging-cases-sfpd-officers-misconduct-history/) From the Face Book page of J.R. On 7-18-20 Mr. Stone was shopping the Walgreens at 790 Van Ness Avenue a little before noon, close to City Hall, when the event he describes occurred. He is right about policy. The mayor's policy is that looters will not be arrested. I just walked into Walgreens as numerous people were walking out with bags and baskets full of stolen items. I guess you could blame Walgreens because they usually have a security guard and today there was no guard but it sickens me that a guard is needed at all times. Pretty much all the hair products were stolen and some of the thieves were moving onto other aisles. A clerk was yelling at one of the looters and threatening to call the cops but he didn’t care. There is less law and order in this city each day and the fact that no one is concerned about it is more than upsetting! I thought about trying to step in and help but if Walgreens doesn't think security is needed at all times and the cops may not show (because of policy) then I guess I shouldn’t care. May have to start doing my shopping in another city. Quote from Ryan Saavedra, Jul 17, 2020, DailyWire.com
"Fringe activists have rioted in cities across the U.S. following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis at the end of May . . . far-left rioters have destroyed numerous historical statues and monuments in recent weeks, including statues of former Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, [and] Ulysses S. Grant, as well as the attempted destruction of a statue of former President Andrew Jackson, before being stopped by law enforcement. Statues of the man who wrote 'The Star-Spangled Banner,' a notable person from the Catholic Church [St Junipero Serra], and a Holocaust memorial have also been destroyed in recent days.” From the Truman Museum
Washington, DC September 1, 1945 To: D A MacArthur/C H Nimitz From: H S Truman Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean end! Suspect Who Allegedly Attacked 3 NYPD Officials Is Released From Jail Without Bail - headline from the Daily Wire (dailywire.com), story by Ryan Saavedra, July 17, 2020. NYPD Chief Terence Monahan is quoted as saying, “They are part of this anarchist group that has been infiltrating this Black Lives movement since the beginning. This is what we dealt with since the first protest after George Floyd. It is a legitimate movement, but it is being hijacked by these anarchists, and they are the ones that have been attacking our police officers [and] are out hiding behind the many, many peaceful protesters that are out there.”
Lauren Blair of TVON was the visual for one of my short story characters. Can you guess which one? The character's lifestyle does not match Lauren's lifestyle. The likeness is her physical appearance only. Lauren knows I used her as the visual, and she joked about revoking my poetic license.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco’s police chief said the city’s rank and file will wear neutral face coverings to defuse a controversy that was sparked when officers sent to patrol a May Day protest wore masks adorned with the “thin blue line” flag. The police union ordered and distributed the masks emblazoned with a black-and-white American flag with a blue stripe across the middle. The symbol is associated with the Blue Lives Matter movement, a display of unity among police officers. San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott has banned face masks adorned with the "thin blue line" flag. In an email obtained by KTVU-TV, Chief Bill Scott told his officers Friday he considered the blue flag and stripe “a meaningful expression to honor fallen officers.” However, he worried that some may perceive the symbol as “divisive and disrespectful.” The police union president, Tony Montoya, said the union had shown the masks to Scott’s command staff, and several of them had asked for more than one. The blue line “represents law enforcement’s separation of order and chaos,” he said. |
