utopia

9/28/2021

In 1516 Thomas More invented utopia. His 40,000-word fiction, Utopia, describes an idyllic place. He combined two Greek words, ou (not) and topos (place). More wrote the satire in Latin, and that's about 160 pages, double-spaced. What a guy! In college I read B.F. Skinner's novel, Walden Two, a utopian society no one would want to visit. I suppose now it would be called dystopian.

Sometimes, you will hear a Christian say, “God spoke to me.” Where does a cultish, bombastic claim like that originate? Lack of a proper education. Find the real presence and cut the crap.

operose

I can only describe my students’ work as operose [AHP-ə-rohs]. Etymology: Latin from opus, meaning work. In English it means displaying much industry or effort. On Sunday, 9-26-21, Altan (13) and I had a bet. “Can you figure out the next two terms in the sequence 0, 2, 8, and 18?” His answer 32 and 50. He won the bet.

Who does the dirty work? Soldiers, correction officers, cops, firefighters, paramedics, coroners, funeral workers, ER doctors and nurses, garbage collectors, janitors, construction workers, plumbers, farmers, truck drivers, and tax preparers, that's who. They turn theory into praxis, i.e., accepted custom and natural conservativism.

2) Chimerism
“In humans, chimerism most commonly occurs when a pregnant woman absorbs a few cells from her fetus. The opposite may also happen, where a fetus absorbs a few cells from its mother. These cells may travel into the mother’s or fetus’s bloodstream and migrate to different organs. They may remain in a mother’s body or a child’s body for a decade or more following childbirth. This condition is called microchimerism. A similar kind of chimerism can occur when a person receives a blood transfusion, stem cell transplant, or bone marrow transplant from another person and absorbs some of that person's cells. This is called artificial chimerism….”

3) Charisma
Etymology – from the Greek χάρισμα (khárisma), which means favor freely given or gift of grace.

4) Christ
When we receive Holy Communion, is Christ’s charisma or chimerism current?

C-4 is explosive and do not take by mouth.

Vaganova class final

Girls 16 years of age. I enjoy watching tests more than stage performance because we get to see girls [and boys] showing what they have learned and without adornment. This is such a good example for students taking timed academic tests. All the steps are timed, memorized, and executed. At about 8 mins, the light-haired girl in the front middle moves her head most masterfully, and if you focus on her head, you will lose yourself. Jumps at the end I could watch a thousand times. Pedagogue at end.

A lenticular cloud is a stationary cloud formed at high altitudes. It is usually aligned at a right angle to the direction of the wind. Pilots avoid lenticular clouds because the waves of air forming them can make for a bumpy ride. On May 25, 2021, Jessica Flores, Engagement Reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, wrote, “To learn more about altocumulus standing lenticular clouds, visit the NWS [National Weather Service] page here https://www.weather.gov/.”

Here is a list of non-Catholic men who were born in the first century and wrote about Christ (crucified 33): historian Flavius Josephus 37-100; historian Publius Cornelius Tacitus 56-120; author Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus 61-113; historian Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus 69-122; and philosopher Mara bar Serapion - letter circa 73. Per Encyclopedia Britannica, Acts of the Apostles was written between 70 and 90.

Adriana and I amused each other over the idea of shooting tranquilizing darts at those about to receive unworthily. Immobilizing them right before communion would save their souls. There is a hapless individual who is not Catholic and receives, and today, he was admonished. I'd rather see wayward politicians be darted. Only if they were near the end of the communion line would we succeed. Ketamine takes effect in 3-4 minutes.

Every discovery of another canto recording amazes. Eastern chanting is, I’m told, about emptying yourself. So your head is empty. We don’t love emptiness; we love a person. Remarks in the comment section of the “Day of Wrath” vid are very funny. A commenter posted the complete Latin lyrics. Over 12 million views. Vid capture is a painting by Hans Memling (1430-1494) National Museum Gdańsk.

schizo

The term “schizoid” refers to the Greek for a split or cleft, as in schism, and signifies how someone can be emotionally split from everyone else. [source: visionsteen.com] Harry Guntrip (1901-1975), British psychotherapist, classifies a secret schizoid as someone who behaves with socially available, interested, engaged, and involved interaction, yet remains emotionally withdrawn and sequestered within the safety of the internal world. That leads me to this query: are contemporary Catholic dissenters secret schizoids?

Q

The word queue begins with a Q and is followed by four silent letters, four standing quietly in a queue and not quacking about it. Q is the start of many Latin words including quinque, which means five, and queue has five letters. In longhand, Q quaintly looks like a 2, but a queue is often longer than 2. Quaint in Latin is sexcentis exagitant. O Q!

Tumultumque means riot [glorious sounding word]
Root for English word tumult [confusion or disorder]
Tumult must be quelled by an army [even little ones]

The word tumultumque sounds like a bass drum tumbling down the mountainside and the fat man who clobbers it right behind.

9-12-21 Every Sunday is a cause for writing. The gospel is a parable a man at a wedding reception takes a place at the table in front, and the host tells him to move for someone more important. JC says, “…every one that exalteth himself shall be humiliated, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” The English translation is an example of fine writing.

I gave a writing prompt to my very gifted student. The prompt, Inference in Writing, is a color picture of a small plane that has crashed in the snow. The pilot is trying to repair the plane with a snowshoe. The student is directed to write about the scene without using the words snow or plane. Inference requires that a writer give clues about a subject - not say anything explicitly. Alexander drew 13 cartoon panels (boxes) with bubbles for dialog. That was his amazing response to the prompt. After the tutoring session was over, I headed for the laptop and produced the following short based on his cartoon. Alexander likes tales about cops, soldiers, FBI agents, secret agents, security guards, guns, and knives...and he likes poetry.
