metonic cycle

6/30/2022

The Metonic cycle is a period of 19 years (235 lunar months), after which the new and full Moons return to the same days of the year. New Moon to new Moon is one cycle.

It appears as a thin curved shape, but I think of it as the time when we cannot see the Moon. The Metonic cycle was the basis of the ancient Greek calendar and is still used for calculating movable feasts such as Easter
.

1711 to 2300 = 589 years
589/19 (the Metonic cycle) = 31
365 days/31 = 11.7741935 (months in a year, not 12)

bellarmine on heretic pope

On the Roman Pontiff, an extract from St. Robert Bellarmine [1542-1621], De Romano Pontifice, lib. II, cap. 30.

“Therefore, the true opinion is the fifth, according to which the Pope who is manifestly a heretic ceases by himself to be Pope and head, in the same way as he ceases to be a Christian and a member of the body of the Church; and for this reason he can be judged and punished by the Church. This is the opinion of all the ancient Fathers, who teach that manifest heretics immediately lose all jurisdiction, and outstandingly that of St. Cyprian (lib. 4, epist. 2) who speaks as follows of Novatian, who was Pope in the schism which occurred during the pontificate of St. Cornelius: ‘He would not be able to retain the episcopate, and, if he was made bishop before, he separated himself from the body of those who were, like him, bishops, and from the unity of the Church.’”

Three women of history I would listen to:

Catherine of Siena (d. 1380)
Joan of Arc, Martyr (d. 1431)

Teresa of Avila (d. 1582)

Some women religious today have scant intellectual power and a thirst for the political power of the (1) pagan priestess, (2) godless politician-ness, (3) television prophetess, and (4) wishful-thinking COE bishopess.

Latin spin-off

The original song is from Arctic Monkeys, “Do I Wanna Know?” (2013).

The poster has a variety of interests, and Latin is surely one of them. The original is about a love affair that turns bad, but he keeps crawling back.

The classical pronunciation is first-rate, and the guys taking part in the video amount to hip-hop Latin scholars.

I looked up “summat”, which is British for “something”. Repto is I crawl. X out the live caption if it pops up.

I remember my brother loved that word estne so much he said it all the time. Estne translated: is it or do you? He heard it in class. I think the way he meant it was, do you understand? He answered no for us.

English – part of speech: adjective; origin: Latin; usage: mainly literary; meaning: loud, reverberating, and often melancholic; example: “While the slow, melodious pace of an erhu and the occasional beating of a Chinese drum provided a plangent accompaniment to the sad song, she wept for her distant lover.” Latin – infinitive form: plangere; meaning: to beat (not as in beating a human)

Here’s the squared total of my apologetics. Got anything better to offer than Monday Night Football; perfect health; a PhD; a pet; a prestigious position; a beer-filled tummy; a flat tummy; a winning lottery ticket; a sand castle; a summer picnic; a flawless, proportional face or body worthy of the Golden Ratio … eternal life.

A Sister’s Reputation

When I was eleven, a boy bullied me. One day, he followed me home. It was after school, around 3:30. Kathy, four years older than I, saw it. I managed to get into the basement, and she asked, “Is he bothering you?”

“Yes,” I said.

“Do you want me to tell him to leave you alone?”

“Yes.”

Kathy, the tough white girl, got rid of him for good.

Someday I will tell how she earned that reputation, which made me and my brother exceedingly valiant.

My father was at work at the time. He did not see what happened. However, he must have been aware. He arranged boxing lessons for me. I did not want to take boxing lessons, but I consented. I consented to everything he said. The same week lessons were to start, the dentist became an interventionist. He said, “Bobby needs braces.”

Now, looking back on it, boxing lessons would have been a good thing.

penance

I hear various Catholics on the internet constantly talking about penance, no offense to anyone. I never thought I did any arduous penance. Then a priest gave me a week-long penance. I spent 50 years in the modernist Church. That was penance! Moses only spent 40 years in the desert.

Video from a man in his early 20s, Generation Z. I am seeing an ever-growing number of videos like this one from generations after me. Joan is in there twice. Congratulations to Gen Z for recognizing what my pathetic, boomers generation does not. Am I biased in their favor? Completely. It is no coincidence that already I have posted some of the paintings and clips in my blog. Deus vult - God wills it.

Note: an actual exorcism of a person is attempted inside a Catholic church, but not in front of an audience as depicted, and is led by a team that is led by a priest reciting The Catholic Roman Rite of Exorcism word-for-word. See several YouTube interviews of Fathers Vincent Lampert or Gary Thomas explaining the Rite of Major Exorcism.

There are no words to describe a teacher who badgers.

I use free stuff on the internet all the time: YouTube, Wikipedia, Quora, Kahn, IXL, NASA, The Poetry Foundation, Britannica, thesaurus.com, wordgenius.com, dictionaries, school websites, and advice from writers, and more, and I download pdf's. No tutored students have to buy anything with one exception: test prep books.

Almost every student is told not to use Wikipedia, and no explanations are given by anyone.

The stench of arrogance in love with itself more than children or young adults is rising. He is an example of what schools turn out these days.

land grabber

6/25/2022

“Bill Gates has made himself the single largest private owner of farmland in the United States.

“The globalist billionaire expanded his holdings of American farmland, accumulating a total of 242,000 acres of the most arable land in America, according to The Daily Caller.

“North Dakota’s attorney general is stepping in after Gates’ trust acquired six parcels of land in Pembina County.

“Attorney General Drew Wrigley sent a Tuesday letter to the trust, demanding answers on how he intends to use (or hoard) the land he purchased in the state.

“North Dakota law restricts the ownership and leasing of farmland to corporations and limited liability companies. In addition, there are certain limitations with regard to trusts.

“If Gates’ trust is unable to demonstrate that it’s using the land in accordance with state law, he could face fines of $100,000 unless the trust divests from the land within one year.

“Some of Gates’ public remarks suggest a dark motive for his hoarding of American farmland.

“Gates has urged developed nations such as the United States to replace real meat with a synthetic laboratory-made replacement.

“‘You can get used to the taste difference, and the claim is they’re going to make it taste even better over time,’ the Microsoft founder argued in an interview with the MIT Technology Review, according to The Western Journal.

“Gates’ position as the single largest owner of American farmland puts him in a unique position to potentially harm ranchers and cattlemen.

“The billionaire could prevent ranchers from grazing their cows on his extensive property, cutting them off from land they’ve used for decades.

“This would significantly increase supply pressures on ranchers, and ultimately raise the price of beef at the supermarkets.”

Modernism attacks.
“Orate fratres” – “Pray, brothers”
Orate is the imperative form of the verb ōrō, which means to speak or pray,
and is, therefore, a command.

After listening to Aldous Huxley, and knowing that he killed himself, finally deciding that the horrendous suffering caused by advanced laryngeal cancer was too much to bear, I cannot but have such sorrow. I do not approve of assisted suicide, but some people judge people who commit suicide. I cannot. Instead, I pray for those I love that God Himself will earnestly take care and reward them for their efforts. For Bob Dunn, effort counts…immensely.
