top 5 romans

The Catholic Gentleman lists the top five Romans, chosen by the editors for virtues, which they generally attribute to religiosity and Roman society’s religiosity. One must think God had a purpose for choosing the time and the place.
Nu
ma Pompilius r. 715 BC – 673
Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus c. 519 BC – 430
Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus c. 280 BC – 203
Marcus Atilius Regulus fl. 267 BC – 255
Marcus Tullius Cicero 106 BC – 43

in the confessional

Just some prefatory remarks before the story begins.

Some people wonder why I am Catholic. I am an outsider, which these people know, but they do not understand Catholicism atall. I don’t engage in asking why, because the question is unanswerable. I learned that as a patrol officer.

The story is an indirect expression of what I know. A ghost story from this perspective is unlike modern, paranormal ship. I claim to be a writer, but I am just a simple Catholic, and though encounters spur writing, I’d rather read and listen than associate.

Description in this story is wondrous.

Does the little mermaid wear an algebra?
Why is it called tourist season if we can’t shoot at them?
What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?
Would a fly without wings be called a walk?
How is it possible to have a civil war?
Is, “You have the right to remain silent,” what police arresting a mute say?
Warning: Do not look up another word for synonym.

CA Legislature 2023. Assemblyman Scott Wiener is sponsoring or co-sponsoring AB 665, AB 957, and AB 223. The bills affect all children in California and pertain to “gender affirming care”. He must be voted out of office for his views on children.

teen's Chopin

Chopin composed “Fantaisie” when he was 24. Difficulty is level 9, advanced, just before master level. My guess is that two hours of practice each day from now on will be required for Robert to progress.

Another guess is that when he enters his late teens, he will gain some independence from parents and the piano tutor and be able to put more of himself, and no one else, into the music.

linkin park Latin

Linkin Park is an American rock band from
Agoura Hills, CA.
You might need to listen several times, as I did, but the video is more proof that Latin is alive, at least on YouTube and Patreon and in my world and a former student’s world.

Agoura comes from the Latin verb augurāre, which leads to the English verb, “to augur”, meaning “to predict or indicate”. Cambridge Dictionary: “The company’s sales figures for the first six months augur well for the rest of the year.”

Crybabies
Who are the most bloated crybabies on the planet?
The left, comprising liberals, modernists, and socialists.

Can a strongman be good? Yes.
Was Franco good? Yes. He protected the Church and strengthened the economy.
Crybabies still complain about him.

Will people, even locals and ‘trad’ Catholics, hate me for posting this video? Yes.
Do I care? I care that people hate me, but not enough to change.

Do I like physical affection? Yes.
Does the left? No. They fear it immensely.
The YouTube poster had to make disclaimers. I don’t.

new world order/un

The presentation is given by Father William Jenkins, SSPV, a sedavacantist. I have nothing to say about that.

I post his commentary from 1991 because of the accuracy and prescience of what he is saying regarding the new world order. He quotes directly from an address given by Paul VI to the United Nations.

I have intellectual curiosity when other trad Catholics are scared of their own shadow and fear displeasing Him. Critical, independent thinking does not displease.

“A popular example of a copyleft is the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike licenses used for works of art. This license allows work to be redistributed and reused as long as the creator is credited, and any derivatives of that work are also made available under the same type of license.

“This allows for the distribution of some digital art without payment to use it, which has become an important distinction in a chronically online world. So, if you own a copyright product and grant others the right to use it too, that’s a copyleft.”

Risqué Words

Risqué words that aren’t.

“The culprit of many unfortunate typos, ‘annals’ is another word for historical records. The plural noun has been used in English since the 1560s, tracing back to the Latin annales libri, meaning ‘chronicles’ or ‘yearlies.’

“During the early Roman Republic, public events were recorded on tablets called Annales Maximi.”

As an English student, tutor, and old layman, I have reached the same conclusions as the YouTube poster. I can do that. People who belittle the literary language of the DR are part of the dumbing-down crowd, the philistines.

Check out my 6/15/2023 Summer Reading List (classics), 36 poems and 54 short stories, scattered throughout my blog, many read by talented narrators/actors, and that does not include novels. The New American Bible is now a bookshelf relic.

3 female martyrs

Anne Line, Margaret Clitherow, Margaret Ward. This is the story of Margaret Ward.
How could a man treat the weaker sex in this way? Father Robert Southwell, SJ, another martyr, wrote to Father Claudio Acquaviva, SJ: “She was flogged and hung up by the wrists, the tips of her toes only touching the ground, for so long a time that she was crippled and paralyzed, but these sufferings greatly strengthened the glorious martyr for her last struggle.” John Roche was her Irish serving-man.

breach of sovereignty

Sovereignty is the right of a nation or group of people to be self-governing. We speak of countries as being sovereign political powers because they are completely independent of any other political entity. Some are asking whether Biden is guilty of a breach of sovereignty regarding the southern border, meaning that we are no longer a sovereign nation but rather a global landing spot.

One sees pH on product labels. It stands for potential hydrogen and describes the acid-alkaline ratio of substances. Remember that ratio is something to something.

Two words in the diagram explained:

logarithm (connotation outside math, baroque)
How does one find the log of a number? The logarithm of a number is the power to which 10 must be raised to equal that number. Some examples are
  • 10 squared = 100, therefore log10 of 100 = 2
  • 10 cubed = 1000, therefore log10 of 1000 = 3

aqueous (connotation outside science, baroque)
Aqueous is an adjective meaning “of or containing water.”

52 trillion

The Congressional Budget Office projects federal debt to be 52 trillion dollars by 2033. If one had a heart, one would not let a nation be impoverished by debt, but some people live under a slab of granite, and the voice of resistance is never heard. I might not be around in 10 years, but my students will.

In a single sweep, BleachBit can clear caches, delete cookies, clear your internet history, shred temporary files, delete logs, and toss out junk files. What famous person used BleachBit? Hillary Clinton is looking a little bleach-bitten lately. Today I saw the name of a commentator, Ameshia Cross. I misread it as Amnesia Cross. I read a statistic that young Americans get most of their news from TikTok and trust TikTok influencers/celebrities the most. It’s a sure bet more BleachBit could be sold to us by China.
