1959 film – The engagement on the Mediterranean is the most exciting and most colorful scene, a recreation of ships, slaves, oars, and hand-to-hand combat. Judah Ben-Hur, played by Charlton Heston, saves Consul Quintus Arrius, played by Jack Hawkins. Thinking he has lost the battle, the Roman consul wants to die, but Ben-Hur, a slave, saves him. The costuming, armor, weaponry, vexilla, musical instruments, and masses of extras, are a wonder. I suggested to Alexander (8) that he ask his mother for a gun rack to store his multitudinous toy guns and rifles. Recommended.
