Latin in the Bible

Surge, vade; quia fides tua te salvum fecit. 
Arise, go thy way; for thy faith hath made thee whole.

This is the last line of today’s Gospel, Luke 17, 11-19, about the ten lepers. Christ cures them, but only one of them, a Samaritan, returns and thanks Him.

Why this sentence? three words

Surge: verb, arise. You’ve heard the English word, “surge”, a verb meaning “to move forward”.

Salvum: adjective, saved. I picked this sentence to show what translators do. Salvum is translated as “whole”. To be saved is to be whole.

Fides: noun, faith. You’ve heard the US Marine Corps motto, Semper Fidelis, which means “Always Faithful”, and you’ve heard of bona fides, meaning good faith.
