Beneath the high masses of especially Mozart, Haydn and Schubert, there was a series of songs (Introitus, Kyrie, Gloria, Offertorium, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and Finale, there were two rows, one by (Michael) Haydn ("Hier liegt vor Deiner Majestät im Staub der Christen Schar") and the other by Schubert ("Wohin soll ich mich wenden, wenn Gram und Schmerz mich drücken"), they were jokingly called the “Staubsauger (vacuum cleaner)-Messe" and the "Kompass-Messe". They were a bit simpler than the High Masses, which were conducted by choir and musicians, and meant to be sung by the churchgoers. I loved them very much, Haydn's a bit more than Schubert's, but unfortunately they are seldom sung nowadays...
