Deena talks about wanting everything we had before 1960 (see How Many post). Desiring the Latin Mass is not desiring a return to the past. The Latin Mass is eternal, outside of time.

Deanna stars in Christmas Holiday from 1944. In the Solemn High Mass scene are snippets from a real Midnight Mass celebrated at the former Cathedral of Saint Vibiana of Los Angeles. Durbin was a good singer.

Andrew (14) was doing additional training before Mass yesterday. At a High Mass, there are levels of increasing responsibility. Here is a short list from the top down: Master of Ceremonies, Crucifer (Head Server), Acolyte 1-Book Bearer, Acolyte 2-Bells, Thurifer and Boat Bearer. Altar boys are ages 7 - 18.

  • Junior Acolyte: Silver Medal w/ribbon, signifying that the young man has learned all his Latin responses and has learned all the movements up to and including Acolyte 2 at Low Mass.
  • Senior Acolyte: Silver Medal w/cord, signifying that the young man has learned all of the movements up to and including Thurifer at Solemn High Mass.
  • MC: Gold Medal w/cord, signifying that the young man has mastered all the movements of every server at any type of Mass, the movements of the Priest, Deacon, and Sub-Deacon, and is able to effectively teach these positions to other servers.

We had a visitor, Father Zachary Akers, FSSP, also a good singer, Director of Development, Clarks Summit, PA.
Domine, non sum dignus ut intres sub tectum meus...
Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldst enter under my roof...
Tectum in Latin means roof. The word “protect” came into English by way of the Latin verb protegere, a combination of pro, meaning “in front”, and tegere, meaning “to cover”. When you protect something, in a way you’re covering it or shielding it from harm. Hence, tectum, roof.

Bob, it is my understanding that desiring the Latin Mass is desiring one crucial component of proper formation. It is not to be confused with some type of "magical" device that will, by itself, keep you from heresy, as history apparently shows us. I understand that there were problems prior to V2. Some have kept their faith in communist prisons without the Mass. Others have lost their faith even with the Latin Mass. But for the vast majority of us, as I understand it, the Latin Mass is crucial and instrumental in us maintaining proper formation. Do you think this is somewhat accurate?

Hi Sam:

Your comment is accurate. I appreciate all the comments you make and the advice given.

In the protestant revolt of the 1500s, many lost their Catholic faith, and the Latin Mass did not prevent that. The political aspirations of various countries got involved. Then, the Enlightenment happened, and it seeped into most everything.

In the History Category, I list the popes who supported monarchy. It is the post labeled Choicest Government on 7/5/2022. Toward the end of the list are the popes who condemned modernism: Leo XIII and Pius X.

There are entries on Lefebvre, Baudelaire, and de Maistre. Chopin was a devout Catholic. I wrote about him (More Tab, Piano).

The History Category has entries on China and Vietnam, too..

Thank you. Bob.
