Back in 2012, Cardinal Wuerl removed Father Marcel Guarnizzo, a priest on loan from the Moscow Archdiocese to the Washington Archdiocese, because the priest denied communion to a woman who told him that she was a Buddhist and in a same-sex relationship with another. A person living in mortal sin may not receive. Everyone knows that, and the priest was correct in refusing to give her communion.

Wuerl denied removing him. He said instead that his assignment had ended. This cardinal protected McCarrick, was a liar on sex abuse cases, and got replaced by Francis in May 2019 by a man totally against the Latin Mass, Wilton Gregory.
