St. James and his brother St. Jude were the only Apostles related to Christ by blood; their mother was a relative of Mary. Christ called James to be His Apostle in the second year, A.D. 31.
St. Paul tells us that Our Lord appeared to James alone after the Resurrection. Before Our Lord’s Ascension, He commended the Church in Jerusalem to James’s care, while the rest of the Apostles traveled the world to spread the faith. He wrote one epistle, as did his brother Jude, and died a martyr in A.D. 62. Many, many men bear his name, not so many, Jude.

St. Jude's statues are often exactly like those of Our Lord, and in earlier years I wondered why "Jesus" is wearing an amulett with his own face on it. And I thought: In HIS case this wouldn't be narcissistic, because HE also could state truly: "I am the son of God."
