Born in 1852, Antoni Gaudí is the architect of Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia, the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world. Begun in 1882 and with a completion date set for 2026, the basilica uses the basic engineering principle of compression without tension, as found in the arch. On June 10, 1926, Gaudí, who had remained single, a fact that some say was due to unrequited love, died after being hit by a tram three days earlier on his way to confession, which was a daily routine. He was 73. I hope his journey was a success.
