Justice or fury? In the good Catholic’s face, there is no fury or fear. Married at 14 and guillotined at 37, she had four children: Marie-Thérèse, Louis Joseph, Louis XVII, and Sophie.
In 1984, 100 were beatified, not Marie, not Louis XVI. He received last rites, but, separately, Marie refused. The priest sent to her while she was in prison was a juror. He had sworn an oath to the revolution. Would you have done the same as Marie? For a serious Catholic, this is a serious decision, one she did not know would be her last.
