Melliferous (mə-LIF-ə-rəs) means “yielding or producing honey.” Latin root: mell, meaning honey. The Latin phrase lac et mel means milk and honey. We get lactate from lac. According to wordgenius.com, “There are more melliferous plants than honeybees can harvest: some grow in a way that prevents bees from accessing them.”
Previously, I said that teaching spelling was outdated. I misspell so many words, like melliferous, that double-checking words is necessary, despite spell check. Even “double-checking” I had to check to see if a hyphen is necessary. It is. Spell check is most befogging: it can be spelled, “spell-check, spell check, or spellcheck.”
