understanding genius

Michael Ventris deciphered Linear B.

Linear B is a syllabic script used for writing in Mycenaean Greek, the earliest attested form of Greek. The oldest Mycenaean script dates to about 1400 B.C., thus predating the Greek alphabet by several centuries.

Michael is a genius, and I tutor a genius. For a reason unknown to me, geniuses beckon, but a boy genius in high school did not want my friendship.

I was hired to tutor Alexander and had staying power, as did the math tutor. The other tutors and therapists did not. The French tutor lasted three weeks.

We have completed 100 lessons. One observation is his desire to get a perfect score on every challenge. I have talked to him about it, and he listens, and he knows I make mistakes, which is a cause of amusement.

Employment is the principal reason I am with him. What he thinks of me, I really couldn’t say.

He helped a man on Quora, and the man called Alexander a twisted genius. Some would say he is odd. I like it.

Alexander has better recall of Greek mythology than I do, draws as he creates new stories, and loves secret codes.

How old is he? Nine.

A student with great potential, may wish to note, that masters and doctors find, they gain significantly in their own understanding of their most cherished work, if they teach it to others.

Before Indonesian independence, when the country was a Netherlands overseas territory and the capitol was named Batavia (after a Roman province and disappeared European ethnicity), much significant work was done to understand Indonesian Gamelan music and shadow-doll theatre, and its relation to the high civilization of India.

A master of that study, the Netherlands ethnomusicologist Jaap Kunst, took passage on a freighter, to or from Europe, sharing a cabin with a physics student. The young physicist spend several weeks, trying to explain his understanding of his area of study.

Jaap Kunst remarked, that the physicist must have suffered a deficit in his own understanding of his subject, necessarily because he failed to communicate his understanding.(I imagine it was because he was unable to summarize at the level of an outsider, a physics-layman, the beginnings and conclusions of the specialty's issues. Thus, he was liable to lose track of his reasoning at the time he came to regard the area of study as important. He "got lost going down the rabbit hole".)

A southwestern Native American, nuclear physicist, a Hopi or Navajo, tried to explain to his tribal elders, the reasons for his regard for the subject area as important.

Their response was, "why do you need that? We have the sun, that supplies all our needs".
