Olympe de Gouges (1748 – 1793) was a French playwright and political activist best known for her writings on women’s rights and abolition. She welcomed the outbreak of the revolution but was disappointed it did not give women equal rights. She associated herself with moderates and even opposed the execution of the king.
Her increasingly vehement writings attacked Robespierre and the Revolutionary government in the Reign of Terror, and that led to her arrest and execution by guillotine in her mid-40s. Don’t think anyone is exempt from the terror of the most radical left. DC/NYC Psalm 128, 1-4 Often have they fought against me from my youth. Let Israel now say: often have they fought against me from my youth. But they could not prevail over me: the wicked have wrought upon my back. They have lengthened their iniquities: the Lord Who is just will cut the necks of sinners. Douay-Rheims
