I have watched Bresson’s film, The Trial of Joan of Arc, five times, it’s that good. I looked up the actor who played Bishop Cauchon, chief judge and villain at the trial, and discovered he was played by Jean-Claude Fourneau (1907-1981).
Fourneau was a painter close to the surrealist movement. The title of the painting (ca 1960) is Pierres, meaning “rock” or “stone” in French, derived from the Greek, πέτρος (petros), by way of the Latin, petra, becoming Pierre and Peter in English. Alexander, one of my students, has a collection of rocks. I like rocks, too. He gave me a piece of pyrite, the fake gold, bless his little soul, but I returned it.

One of my students, Jacob (father Polish, mother Chinese), has also got a collection of half-precious stones, like quartzes, which he proudly showed to me 😊...

Yes! Alexander has mainly quartzes, kept in a little box close to where we tutor. He brings them out frequently, and we touch and admire them. When I was in my teens, I had an illustrated series of about 20 books for young people that included, "Rock and Minerals", and I read through that title and the one on earthquakes and volcanoes whenever I got bored.
