Mother Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ, 1857-1914, Superior General, International Society of the Sacred Heart, educating girls and women
Born Cottesmore, UK, the youngest of 13 children, Janet was typical of her social class and time. She was educated at home and was fortunate in her governesses who included very capable, well-trained German and Swiss, with whom she became fluent in German and French, and studied philosophy, math, and literature.
