Belloc (1870-1953) grew up in England and graduated from John Henry Newman’s Oratory School in Birmingham. In 1890, he met Elodie Hogan, an American living in Northern California. What fascinated me was his trip to visit her. He married Hogan in 1896, and they had five children.
