Jesuit Discipline San Francisco 1960s
One hour after school was given for any number of reasons. I got two detentions within the first two months for being late. I could not afford it and was never late again and never missed a day of school in four years. One Jesuit came from the Marine Corps. Detention consisted of not moving in the desk chair and silently staring straight ahead at the blackboard. No physical corporal punishment was exacted, but the rest was, like push-ups. Australian Catholic Schools Abstract “This paper examines whether the substantial benefits reported for attending Catholic schools in the United States also exist for students of Catholic schools in Australia. We find that despite its relatively low cost, attendance at Australian Catholic schools increases the probability of completing high school by 17 percentage points. The evidence also suggests that attendance at Australian Catholic schools increases the probability of obtaining higher education and is associated with a superior performance in the labor market.” Vella, Francis. “Do Catholic Schools Make a Difference?
